Yeast infections during pregnancy; what if they are left untreated?
I’m positive I have had a yeast infection for a few weeks, but I have not treated it yet (yes I know it is a yeast infection I have had them before and my fiancee and I have been together for 4 years, I am also checked regularly for STD’s and other infections I am 26 weeks along) But I am worried about what happens if it is left untreated. I don’t see my doctor until the 11th, and the symptoms go away and come back. It’s almost like it’s curing itself and coming back. Is this possible? What harm can it do to my pregnancy? What happens if it is left untreated?

Yeast infections are more common during pregnancy than any other time in a woman’s life, especially during the second trimester of pregnancy.Your body is going through so many changes right now, and it is difficult for your body to keep up with the chemical changes in the vaginal environment. There is more sugar in the vaginal secretions on which the yeast can feed, causing an imbalance, which results in too much fungus.
Yeast infections can cause severe discomfort but rarely cause serious health problems. Left untreated, vaginal yeast infections often clear up on their own.
However you should see your Dr. and have them do a swab. It could be that you have a bacterial infection, which are actually more common. Bacterial vaginosis and pregnancy are not a healthy combination. If you are pregnant, bacterial vaginosis has been linked with preterm birth. Bacterial vaginosis must be treated with an antibiotic. Only your Dr can tell the difference.
