Treating a vaginal yeast infection with Garlic?
Ever since I have joined the military 2 years ago, I have been suffering from reoccurring yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis. I have taken Diflucan (Fluconazole) and Metronidazole (flagyl) and every other medicine you can think of with no positive results. Anybody in the military knows that they don’t really try and get to the root of the problem, they will just give you the medicine and send you on your merry way. I read an article on using a clove of garlic and vaginally inserting it to cure yeast infections. Has anybody ever personally tried it? What are some other natural remedies that I can use to treat a yeast infection so that I won’t have to continually go back to medical?
I think what the problem stems from is the fact that when I work, I’m sweating and slaving for hours and all the moisture down there isn’t good. I only wear cotton underwear and I can change my underwear anywhere for 2-4 times a day because it’s so hot. I work on helicopters and so I don’t have the leisure of sitting all day in an air conditioned room.
Monika, I use to be in the medical field prior to joining the military and it is a fact that garlic is a somewhat natural antibiotic. Recall how Louis Pasteur used it in his laboratory studies when coming up with an effective way of killing of bacteria and certain fungi. Allicin, one main compound in garlic, effectively fights off infection. I just want to know if anybody has ever tried it and the results they’ve gotten back from it.

I have heard of eating garlic to help cure the infection! Natural yogurt with live cultures is great. Insert 2tbl spoons in the evening and leave in all night. By morning the good bacteria should have killed a far amount of the bad bacteria. You can also eat natural yogurt, no less than 300grams a day. This could take 7 to 14 days to clear up. Once it has cleared keep eating the yogurt for a couple of weeks, even just 3 servings a week, to stop the infection reoccuring. Try wearing cotton underwear and loose fitting clothing also. This helps to air the area.
I hope this has helped you.
Garlic isn’t a treatment for yeast infections. And I’ve never heard it to be beneficial. What is beneficial in preventing them is eating acidophilous yoghurt on most days. Acidophilous yoghurt has lot’s of good bacteria in it that helps to keep yeast infections at bay, because the reason for yeast infections in the first place is usually due to the decrease in the vagina’s natural bacteria, and this can happen due to various reasons. Also, do you wear cotton breathable knickers? This is essential to keep good airflow around the vaginal area – silky pretty knickers are no good for vaginal health as when you get hot/sweaty down there it’s hard to stay dry. Another thing you could try is wearing panyliners regularly and changing them about 3 times a day, this is a good way to stay fresh and dry down there. Also, when you shower just use plain warm water when cleaning the genital area, soaps and shower gels are a great irritant and perfect for causing your yeast infection to reoccur when you are alsready so prone to them. I hope I’ve healped you, if even a little bit. Good luck, I hope it gets sorted for you soon as it is rather uncomfortable
