Symptoms of a yeast infection in a dogs ear?

My 5 year old chihuahua has never had ear problems. Last night she started yelping like she was in pain, wouldn’t let us touch her, became agressive but also timmid. I took her to the emergency vet who said that she has a yeast infection of the ear. Not that I’m the expert, but I am just not buying it. Her pain seems so much worse. Any experience you have to offer?

Well since she wont let you touch her ear, there is deffinently something wrong with it. It could be an ear infection or something stuck in the ear canal itself.
If its an ear infection and it is that painful, it has been there for probably a little while. There would be a foul smell coming from the ear and also there would be a black/brown discharge coming out of the ear. The dog will be itching it and shaking its head alot. And like you stated she will get aggressive when trying to touch the ear and it is very painful.
What you can do is take your dog to her regular vet and ask the dr. to look in the ear. THey will probably recromend an ear flush, culture, and also, oral and topical antibiotics. If you dont want to spend a lot of money, try the brod spectrum antibioitics. If it doesnt go away after that (probably 10-14 days) then go with the culture and the flush.
The cluture is going to be expensive but it will tell you exactly what type of bacteria is growing in her ear and the vet will know which antibioitic to perscribe to directly treat the infection.
The flush is going to clean the dogs ear out they vet will probably give an oral sedative and clean the canal out all the way and get everything out of there.
If you decide to go with the antibiotics and the flush they will probably give you the orals before the flush and then the topicals because there is no use in giving topicals in a dirty infected ear.
Anways, I hope this helps. Just take her to your regular vet. so its not as expensive as the ER.
Good Luck!!!!
