Is Valtrex like an antibiotic for cold sores & herpes? Could it cause a yeast infection as a side effect?

I was prescribed it for a fever blister and I was wondering if it would cause a yeast infection.

Valtrex is an antiviral drug. It’s mechanism of action is that it is an inhibitor of an enzyme that only the virus uses, so it cannot cause a yeast infections. Yeast infections that are caused by antibiotics because they kill the "good" bacteria that live in the vagina allowing for yeasts to move in and set up shop.
