Is vaginal irritation after taking an antibiotic normal?
I just finished a course of anti-biotics(amoxil) for a middle ear infection yesterday and all last night and today I have been itching, sensitive, and just generally irritated down below. I am a female and fear it may have caused a yeast infection. Should I go ahead and take a yeast infection treatment or will it go away within the next couple of days? I am not sensitive down there @ all and haven’t had a yeast infection since my late teens but something is up. HELP!!

Yes it can throw off your body, and give you a infection. I have found that it happens to me as well on amoxil or amoixilcillian(spelling?) so I tend to treat myself for a yeast infection at the same time.
It could go away in a couple days, or it could get worse. I am not a doctor, but I would think if you have some anti itch cream at home it wouldnt hurt.
Doesnt it stink that we get a medicine to treat one thing and it leads to us having another?
anytime you take an antibiotic it is used to clear up bacteria. when it kills the "bad" bacteria that is causing your infection (in this case your ear infection) it also kills the "good bacteria" as well, which in turn can YES…cause a yeast infection.
do not treat a yeast infection until you are completely done w/ the meds or it will do you no good.
you can use the over the counter monistat and that should take care of it..however there are some cases where you may need to get another prescription to clear that up.
In the last year or so, every time I’ve been given some type of penicillin I have gotten the same thing you have. It really sucks, I took the yeast infection treatment right away, whether it will go away on it’s own I don’t know, I didn’t take that chance.
Ohhh, boy do I understand. Sure sounds like a yeast infection to me. I get those things so badly that I don’t have any problem using the medication right on the get go.
I have had really good luck with eating yogurt with live culture (like dannon) every day that I am on antibiotics to prevent the yeast overgrowth.
Good luck.
It is possible
Yep. Yeast infections are a common side effect of taking antibiotics. I get a prescription for treatment for a yeast infection along with my antibiotics now – because it happens every time! Just get the appropriate stuff over the counter at the pharmacy. No reason to suffer!
