It is true! The acidophilus and cultures in yogurt eat yeast. Yeast is always present in your body, especially "down there", and that’s totally healthy. Your body also houses bacteria that keep the yeast in balance. When the yeast grows out of control (like when you take an antibiotic that kills off the "good" bacteria) the cultures in yogurt can help restore that balance.
Make sure the yogurt you get has acidophilus in it, and also get a yogurt without a lot of sugar (unsweetened if possible) because yeast eats sugar, so getting a sugary yogurt could actually be counterproductive. Avoid the very sugary mainstream brands like Dannon and Yoplait. If you live near a Whole Foods or another healthy or natural grocery store, they should have lots of natural yogurts for you to choose from.
yeh i guess.
It doesn’t cure it, but it does aid in the prevention of it. Some girls are more prone to yeast infection than others. Some will get one every time they take antibiotics. Some will go their whole life never having one. Yogurt can help prevent it for some.
Thats what I have heard. Its really not that hard to believe. We have cures for all kinds of illnesses around us… what do you think people used before modern medicine.
Yogurt can help yes. It has to be plain. She needs to cut back on sugar (it feeds the yeast).
Yogurt is not a magic cure. It is still best to go to the dr.s. It is best to eat yogurt regularly and extra when taking antibiotics to help prevent an infection. The length of time it would take to maybe cure an infection by eating yogurt alone would be a long uncomfortable time.
There are active cultures in yogurt (lactobacillus) which counteract the yeast in the vagina. Blueberries don’t really do it – it’s the yogurt itself. There’s also a pill over the counter called AZO which is basically those active cultures in pill form. Taking 2 of them 2-3 times a day during an active infection and then 1 a day for a few days afterward will help keep the normal flora of the vagina. The doctor will probably prescribe Diflucan which is a pill taken once.
eating yogurt on a daily basis helps prevent a yeast infection but cannot cure it once you’ve gotten it.
the cultures in the yogurt interact with the natural bacteria in the vaginal area to create a "balancing act". this means that the cultures and bacteria balance each other out to help prevent infection.
so yogurt does help prevent one but won’t treat it.
Eating yogurt is a cure for yeast infections. I have never heard of any other type of food helping.
yeh it does. but probably she needs anti funjel therapy that kills her candediasis withen 3 days vagainal applecations .. so this is the best treatment , throught that she can use acidyphillus which is a ver frindly bacteria , they sell it in pharmacies it fasters the healing and keep her clean for a long time ,. so u might like to tell her that .
ps= i am a pharmacist. and a women
When I had my first and only yeast infection it was due to the antibiotics my doctor put me on for a terrible cold I had. She said the medicine was powerful and it could happen because it kills all of the good bacteria as well as the bad ones causing my sickness. The doctor told me when I went back because of the yeast infection that I should eat any kind of yogurt that it contained natural cultures that help battle the infection. She also informed me that while it may not be comfortable that actually applying yogurt (she laughingly/seriously told me not to use flavored ones just plain) to my vagina/affected area would help as well as help relieve some of the syptoms. I haven’t heard of the blueberries comment, but that is my experience and I hope it helps. Best of luck and best wishes as well Hun. Take care . . .
doesnt cure yeast infections, but it definitly can help prevent them. taking her to the doctors is jsut to make sure that she has just a yeast infection and not something more serious. alot of illnesses down there can start out similar, but then end up a lot more serious. some disease can cause a woman to go sterile if not treated, so shes just being cautious.
