I think I may have a yeast infection. I've never had one before so I'm unsure.?
I have never had a yeast infection before. I’ve had bacterial vaginosis once several years ago and had no symptoms at that time. So this is completely new to me.
The symptoms I’m experiencing include a sore and slightly swollen vaginal area (sore and swollen labia, and soreness around the vaginal opening), these areas sting and burn when I urinate, but there is no actual pain from the urethra. It is also painful to touch and move. I am menstruating at the moment so it’s hard to gauge the discharge but prior to menstruation I had a dry white discharge that would ball up (this is normal for me before my period) and it was a little bit itchy (which it does occasionally with that kind of discharge). There has never been any odour.
I have considered several options from STD’s to having accidentally scratched myself (which has happened but was not nearly this painful) to an allergic reaction to a new type of tampon I’ve tried this cycle, but I’m really thinking it may be a yeast infection.
I’m unable to see a doctor at this time, so I’m considering just buying an OTC yeast infection treatment, but I’d like to know if anyone has any other suggestions as to what it could be?
***UPDATE***
Just to update, I got an OTC treatment, and it’s already helping! Thank you all for your advice!

A lot of times your period will correct the imbalance in your vagina causing the problems. Try just the external cream that comes with the monistat pack until you are done with your period. If you are still having problems then, use the ovules.
The best thing to do is to buy the OTC treatment and follow up with your doctor
My friend you have the dreaded thrush – unfortunately this is very much a woman’s complaint, and often does occur at the time of a period. Your description of it sounds like thrush very much, and I am afraid the only way to cure it is by visiting your doctor.
Thrush is a yeast infection, and though it will eventually go away on its own, it just lays dormant and will rear its ugly head again – you need a course of antibiotics. If left it could turn to a nasty case of cystitis which then cause an infection in the kidneys, it sounds like you have a touch of that too, cos it burns like hell when you pee. Are you feeling you need to go to the bathroom a lot, and then when you get there, nothing happens.
Do go to the doctor, the sooner you go the better you will feel.
Good Luck
Just to let u know that if is not a yeast infection u will make it worst with the over the counter medication Best to be check could be bacterial vaginosis again with a mild yeast and urinary infection u can take some relief by applying a cold clean cloth outside the vagina area for ur irritation and itch as necessary but after ur period if u still the same please have yourself check with a gynecology or doctor of ur Choice.
hope this information will help
